Calcium Chloride offers advantages over traditional de-icing products (for example rock salt) due to its low temperature performance and fast melting properties.

Exothermic Process
The absorption of water by Calcium Chloride is an exothermic process. This is advantageous in de-icing applications as the heat generated further aids the ice melting process. In addition, Calcium Chloride forms a high salt content, hydrated solution as it absorbs the water. This liquid Calcium Chloride solution has a much lower freezing point than other de-icing products, ensuring that the formation of ice is inhibited to even lower temperatures.
